PepsiCo continues its push from plastic
To reduce waste, the beverage maker is making packaging changes to three of its brands
PepsiCo will be selling three of its products in recyclable packaging.
The company announced it’s LIFEWTR will be packaged in 100% rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) and it’s bubly will no longer be packaged in plastic. The company’s Aquafina water brand will also offer aluminum can packaging in U.S. food service outlets, while the brand tests the move in retail.
The changes, which all go into effect next year, are expected to eliminate more than 8,000 metric tons of virgin plastic and approximately 11,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. According to the company, this latest move is an example of PepsiCo’s goals to make 100% of its packaging recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable by 2025, and to use 25% recycled plastic content in all of its plastic packaging.
