Consumer goods industry pledges to halve food waste by 2025

The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) has announced an ambitious plan to tackle food waste that will see its 400 retail and manufacturer members around the world cut their food waste in half by 2025.

Recognizing the stark reality that one-third of calories produced are never eaten, the Paris-based organization says food waste is an “enormous” environmental, social and economic challenge that costs the global economy about $750 billion each year.

The CGF’s Food Waste Resolution focuses on two key areas. The first area of focus is working towards the goal of halving food waste within its members’ operations by 2025, while the second key focus is to support wider United Nations’ goals on this issue, which include reducing food losses along the production and supply chains.
