With Korean food and culture experiencing a cultural renaissance among other Chinese and other Asian groups, Overwaitea offered a Korean Food Festival recently at its PriceSmart Foods store in Richmond, B.C.
The Korea Investment-Trade Promotion Agency (KOTRA) held the festival from Dec. 6-8 in partnership with Mobiltech International, a local importing company. KOTRA said it was the first Korean food festival of its kind in Vancouver.
There were renowned local Korean artists including percussion team, (Cheondoong), a traditional dance team (Kim Mi Jung) and K-pop Dance team (Creative Motion) over the three-day event which brought some 30,000 shoppers to the Richmond store.
Along with local government and political representatives, Darrell Jones, Overwaitea’s president kicked off the event.
Organizers and food manufacturers also donated non-perishable Korean food to the Richmond Food Bank Society that will help provide more than 6,000 meals for those who are in need.
