Agropur to close cheese plant in Quebec

More than 100 workers will be impacted by the closure, but opportunities will be available at other sites

Canadian dairy cooperative Agropur is closing a cheese plant in Saint-Damase, Que. next year, saying "major investments were needed at the plant" to keep it running.

The facility, which is an hour outside of Montreal, will cease production in January ahead of its closure in April 2019. Production handed out of the Saint-Damase plant will be moved to two other plants within the province.

The closure will impact 110 employees, who will be able to "take advantage of available programs, including employment opportunities at other Agropur sites, severance packages, and the employee and family assistance program," the company said in a press release issued last week.
