Giant Tiger continues its aggressive cross-country expansion with the opening of three stores--two in Ontario and one in Saskatchewan.

The locations in Hamilton, Windsor and Saskatoon opened Oct. 13 with community celebrations and promotional giveaways. Each store is approximately 24,000 sq. ft. and carries Giant Tiger's usual fare of groceries, clothing and everyday household items.

In addition to these three locations, Giant Tiger recently opened a 600,0000-square-foot distribution facility in Eastern Ontario late last month.  At launch, Dave Burnside, executive vice-president and chief purchasing officer, grocery with Giant Tiger, told Canadian Grocer the new state-of-the-art facility would help the family-owned company maintain its market position as a “low cost” operator and increase the number of grocery items available in its stores.

With more than 240 locations currently open across Canada, the Ottawa-based chain plans to open 10 to 15 new stores every year for the next three to five years.
