Last Friday, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto hosted some 250 guests at Casa Loma including local food distribution companies, food importers and Korean grocers to introduce Korean cuisine to Canadians.

Galleria Supermarket and Korea Food Trading, along with HMart and PAT Mart were all in attendance and presented delicacies such as Korean melons, rice cakes, and the pickled cabbage sidedish synonymous with Korean cuisine, kimchi.

Next year, it will be the 50th anniversary of Korea-Canada diplomatic relations, and in preparation for that the Consulate

General is looking to introduce Korean food and culture to mainstream Canadians.

Korean food and Korean supermarkets have gained popularity over the years with cooking shows and food trucks demonstrating Korean cuisine.

In 2014, Galleria Supermarket will be opening a 220,000 sq. ft. shopping complex called Galleria Centre.

The complex will be in Mississauga (west of Toronto) and will house some 50 tenants and Galleria Supermarket will be the main anchor tenant on the second floor with a 40,000-sq.-ft. store.
