Dairy Farmers of Canada has a new president with the election of Pierre Lampron for a two-year term. The vote was held last week during the organization's annual general meeting in Edmonton.

Lampron is a seventh generation organic dairy farmer from Mauricie, Que., according to DFC's website, and replaces Wally Smith who served the maximum three terms.

"I am honoured to have been elected as DFC's president, and look forward to working with DFC staff, and our members, to promote and protect the interests of all Canadian dairy farmers," said Pierre Lampron, in a press release announcing his appointment. "While we face challenges, in the coming months as we head into the re-negotiation of NAFTA and proposed changes to nutrition regulations, I am confident that united, we will be successful."

In addition to a new president, a new executive committee was formed to include David Wiens, Reint-Jan Dykstra, Ralph Dietrich and Bruno Letendre.
