A Loblaw CityMarket store has been announced as one of the anchor tenants at Edmonton's The Ice District--a 25-acre mixed-use sports and entertainment district that includes a state-of-the art arena and condo towers.

Construction will begin right away on the 22,000-sq.-ft. grocery store space, which is being built on a former Greyhound terminal site. It is slated to open in the fall of 2020.

According to a press release from Ice District, CityMarket will feature "chef inspired grab ‘n’ go meal items for lunch and dinner; a wide selection of products to suit a variety of dietary needs, including organic and gluten–free choices and all the fresh food and grocery items customers will need to complete their weekly grocery shop."

"One of the things the community has been asking for time and time again is amenities for lifestyle livability, and the core of that is a grocery store," said Tim Shipton, a spokesman for the Katz Group--the real estate developer behind the project--in a video for the Edmonton Journal.
