A man in his 40s who worked at a Real Canadian Superstore in Oshawa, Ont. is the province's youngest victim of COVID-19, health officials said Thursday.

Ontario’s associate medical officer of health Dr. Barbara Yaffe made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday.

Loblaw executive chairman Galen Weston announced on Monday that an employee had tested positive for COVID-19 and outlined the actions it had taken to mitigate any risks of the virus spreading. This involved closing the store and giving it a deep clean, among other measures.

As of Friday morning, the government said 39 people across Canada had died as a result of COVID-19, 15 of them in Ontario, which has seen the most fatalities.

Quebec, with eight deaths, has reported the most cases in Canada at 1,629--around double that in Ontario and British Columbia, which has seen 14 deaths.
