After successful launches in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton, Walmart is expanding its grocery pickup service to six locations in Manitoba.

The free service allows customers to place orders at Walmart.ca up or through the big-box retailer's app for pick up at participating stores, where orders are loaded into the shopper's car. Same-day service is available for orders placed by 11 a.m. for pick up after 4 p.m. A minimum order of $50.00 before tax is required.

"Manitobans have been asking for this service and we're proud to offer it as we continue to improve, expand and grow our services so customers can shop however they want, whenever it's convenient for them, from wherever they are," said Daryl Porter, vice president of omni-channel operations and online grocery, Walmart Canada, in a press release.

Grocery continues to be a key area of growth for Walmart as it tries to steal market share from the country’s largest food retailers, and compete with digitally-led players such as Amazon and now its Whole Foods chain. Walmart introduced home delivery to select GTA locations early in 2017, and more recently partnered with SPUD’s Food-X Urban Delivery service to provide online grocery to Vancouver residents.
