Along with aisles upon aisles of traditional Italian fare–prosciuttos, Parma hams, Parmigiana Reggiano, balsamic vinegars, olive oils and antipasti–there were scores of new products to discover at CIBUS 2018—Italy’s biggest food and beverage show—which took place in Parma this week.

One of the new features of the biennial show, which is expected to attract 80,000 visitors from around the world including buyers from most major Canadian grocery retailers, is CIBUS Innovation Corner. Showcased in this area are 100 innovative products selected from more than 1,000 new items on display at 3,100 booths at CIBUS.

Products selected for Innovation Corner were chosen by a judging panel of 21 experts and fit into six categories: convenience, free-from & vegan, heathy, local, packaging, and taste & specialty. According to show organizers these represent “all main emerging trends that drive change on the store’s shelves” and satisfy the expectations of today's consumers.
