The newest executive at Sobeys is trading in two-by-fours for tomatoes.

Lyne Castonguay (pictured) was named chief merchandising officer on Tuesday.

She comes to Sobeys from the Home Depot, spending 14 years with the hardware chain, most recently as senior vice-president of home services at the company's headquarters in Atlanta.

Before Home Depot, Castonguay worked at General Electric in Canada. She spent some time in the CPG business with Maple Leaf Foods in the early 1990s in Quebec.

Sobeys president Marc Poulin called Castonguay a “passionate and successful retailer who brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record for growing the businesses she has led.”

She will oversee Sobeys “go-to-market strategy” with responsibility for category management, marketing, data insights, research, procurement, private label, merchandising and digital strategy.

Castonguay hails from Edmunston, N.B. and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Moncton.
