Aldi keeps interviewees in the dark

Block box technique aims to put certain biases aside

German grocery chain Aldi is experimenting with with the way it interviews potential staff.

At a job fair in Cologne last month, job candidates met with a recruiter in a black box in an effort to keep potential age and appearance prejudices aside. According to Business Insider, the interviewer and interviewee were unable to see one another.

An HR specialist from Aldi said the grocer wanted to hold discussions "without prejudices — neither on the part of the applicants nor on the part of the company.”

One candidate told Business Insider that being interviewed in the black box made him feel less nervous because he couldn't see who was sitting opposite him.
