Made in China food increasingly found in U.S. kitchens

Increasingly, Americans are eating food imported from China, where food safety issues continue to plague the nation's food supply

Everything from artificial vanilla to tilapia is coming from China and consumed by Americans.

U.S. Agriculture Department figures show that by the end of last year, the U.S. imported 4.1 billion pounds of food products from China.

Recently, Smithfield Foods, a large U.S. pork producer, was taken over by Shuanghui International, a large meat processor in China for $4.7 billion.

It's being called the largest takeover of an American company by a Chinese one.

The move has prompted growing concerns about China's role in the American food supply. Namely, what are the implications for food safety when it comes to food imports from China, at a time when there are more Chinese food scandals making the news.
