Whole Foods converts waste into fertilizer

Washington location installs technology to reduce food scraps at stores

Whole Foods Market is doing its part to reduce food waste.

One of the retailer's stores, located in Bellevue Washington, is installing a technology that converts food scraps into fertilizer that can be sold.

The WISErg Harvester unit, a creation of the bio-clean technology company WISErg Corporation, will be installed in May. It will enable the Bellevue location to reduce food waste, as well as provide data reports to better manage perishable inventory.

In addition to Whole Foods Market, the Harvester is currently deployed at a number of regional independent grocers in Washington State.
