From 1,300 chefs and 120 submissions, Hao Vu Mai, a team leader at the Loblaws store in Winnipeg was crowned Bento Sushi's Iron Chef winner at its annual competition.

Regional competitions were held, with the six top chefs competing for the title of Iron Chef on May 3 at Toronto's Humber College.

Bento chefs from all over North America were called on to develop their own sushi roll; fusing together favourite flavours and inspirations.

To make things more interesting, chefs were given a black box of unknown ingredients and asked to develop a sushi roll within 60 minutes.

The winner of the black box round will have their roll featured as our holiday limited time offer which runs during the Christmas/holiday season, all of which run in our retail and grocery locations across Canada and New York, said Heather McCann, assistant brand manager, Bento Sushi.

The competition was open to all 1,300 Bento Sushi chefs which can be found in 360 locations across Canada and New York, including all major grocery banners such as Loblaws, Longo's, Sobeys, and Metro.
