Colemans rewards customers for using cloth bags

Newfoundland grocer looks to reduce plastic bag consumption
6/9/2017

In an effort to help reduce single-use plastic bag consumption in Newfoundland by 20%, Colemans is "rewarding customers for using cloth."

The family-owned grocery store chain will give shoppers five cents for each re-usable bag they fill at all Colemans locations and its two partner stores, Co-op Ganer and Co-op Clarenville.

"We are extremely proud of this important environmental initiative and Colemans will maintain our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint," said Mike Coleman, vice-president of Colemans.

It is estimated that Newfoundlanders use 200 million plastic bags each year, according to a press release announcing the initiative.
