Piller's introduces popular Spanish brand to Canada
1/7/2014

Spain’s purported No. 1 brand of traditional cured meats is coming to Canada.

Campofrio pre-packaged deli meats hit Loblaws, Zehrs and Real Canadian Superstore shelves just before Christmas and other chains are expected to start carrying them by next month.

Four SKUs are available: a sliced 70g Iberico Ham for $18.99 per package; 85g Serano Ham for $9.99 per package; a 100g sliced Chorizo for $5.99 per package; and a 175g deli stick of Sarta Chorizo for $7.99 per package.

The line is being distributed by Waterloo, Ont.-based Piller’s Fine Foods.

This is the first time Campofrio meats have been sold in Canada, a Piller's spokesperson said.

The line available here is a product of the United States, where Campofrio is already available in some 20 states in supermarkets such as Kroger, Wegmans, Shop Rite and HEB.

An American website is used to market the meats, tapas pairings and recipes.

Campofrio was founded in 1952 in Espana, Spain. The company at first sold canned goods but soon moved into meats.

In December, Campofrio was purchased by Sigma and Shuanghui International Holdings of China.
