10/29/2012

Loblaw Cos. Ltd.'s pharmacy group has been awarded the certificate of excellence by Hypertension Canada for the retailer's  efforts and positive approach on health management and chronic disease, specifically on sodium reduction with the Sodium Awareness Lifestyle Tips (SALT) campaign.

The award was presented to the retailer at Hypertension Canada's 2012 annual general meeting in Toronto Oct. 27.

On the award, Bobbi Reinholdt, senior vice-president, pharmacy, Loblaw said: "We are proud of the way the SALT campaign was successful in raising awareness with our patients and the role our pharmacists and dietitians play in helping customers manage their health and wellness needs."

Loblaw's month-long SALT program focused on cardiovascular health with a special emphasis on sodium intake guidelines. Customers using blood pressure medications were also taught about the link between sodium and hypertension.

Loblaw views its pharmacies as a cornerstone of the company's health and wellness strategy and collaborates with third-party organizations such as Hypertension Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association and Anaphylaxis Canada.
