McCain rebrands iconic Pizza Pockets

Pizza Pocket fans alarmed over rumours that the product would be discontinued

Calm down, Pizza Pocket fans. Your cheese and tomato sauce-filled dough snacks aren’t going anywhere.

Rumours began to fly Wednesday afternoon that McCain Canada was going to discontinue Pizza Pockets—an iconic product from the frozen food company. As the day went on, social media gained steam as people lamented the loss of their childhood snack.

“I think this is a sad day for pizza lovers. Why are you turning your backs on us @McCainFoods?” wrote one person.

“This is an outrage,” another distraught fan tweeted.

McCain quelled any concerns Wednesday evening, using Twitter to announce that Pizza Pockets are here to stay, but with a new look. “Marché Pizza Pockets,” as they will now be called, will become part of a new snack line the company is calling “McCain Marché.”

Other products in the McCain Marché line include Harvest Pockets, a savoury snack with fillings such as cheese and spinach and chicken and broccoli, baked inside a rosemary sourdough bun. Another product is a bite-sized version of the pocket, Protein Pop’Ables, and comes in flavours like Jamaican beef and Italian sausage crumble.

The McCain site notes that all McCain Marché Snacks are prepared in Canada.

It's unclear when McCain will begin rolling out the new products and packaging in stores. Loblaw and Walmart are still selling the original Pizza Pockets on their sites.
