CPMA annual convention a success

4/21/2011

The Canadian Produce Marketing Association held its 86th annual convention and trade show in Montreal on April 13 to 15, drawing some 3,300 participants.

The show was the largest to date, according to CPMA, and featured tributes to outgoing president Dan Dempster, who was with the organization for 34 years.

“I have been blessed to have worked for such a wonderful industry and association. When I think back as to why I stayed so long, it can be summed up in two words; the people,” said Dempster. “CPMA’s success can be attributed to the dedication and commitment of wonderful volunteer directors supported by a hard working and passionate staff.”

Dempster’s successor, Ron Lemaire added that, “We have a great foundation to build from and great industry partners to draw from, the success of this Convention and Trade Show is an indication of that,” said Lemaire “I am excited about the opportunities that lay ahead for CPMA.”

Several awards were handed out at the show, including:

The Mary FitzGerald Award: Josée Houle, Metro Richelieu Inc.

The Produce News Fresh Health Award: Gambles Ontario Produce

The CPMA Lifetime Achievement Award: Ghislain Perron, Metro Richelieu Inc.

The Packer’s Produce Person of the Year Award: Jim DiMenna, JD Marketing

Best New Product Showcase Winner: La Vita Imports

The next CPMA show will be held in Calgary April 11 to 13, 2012.
