Costco Canada opened its newest store–and its largest warehouse in Canada–in St. John’s, N.L. on Thursday.
According to a press release, the new location created 80 additional jobs and “even more conveniences and savings” than the city’s former Costco location.
The 182,000-sq.-ft. location features wider aisles and a larger selection of food offerings than in the past. It’s home to an expanded produce section, an on-site bakery, a large food court, a rotisserie chicken section and a newly-introduced hearing aid centre.
“With our newly-expanded warehouse, we can bring even more benefits of a Costco membership to St. John’s and, of course, the remaining residents and businesses of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Pierre Riel, senior vice-president and general manager, Costco Wholesale Eastern Canada. “This warehouse is the largest in Canada and we are very proud to share this new location with our valued members and member businesses in the local community and throughout the area.”
The newest store has 20 checkouts, 1,000 parking spots (300 more than the former St. John’s location) and sells more than 4,000 products. Costco operates 100 warehouses in Canada and employs more than 39,000.
