Walmart is giving its produce section a makeover.

In a blog post published on its corporate website Wednesday morning, the big-box retailer said it was making updates to stores in the U.S. that include wider aisles, new signs highlighting prices and shorter merchandise bins.

Walmart will also move its organic products to one area of the department, making it easier for customers to find.

“In addition to improving the shopping experience for customers, these changes make it easier for our associates to work in the department,” wrote Charles Redfield, EVP, Walmart U.S. Food, in the post.

“Our new format simplifies workloads, making it easier for our associates to stock produce. This way, they can re-focus their time on serving customers,” he added.

Walmart upped its commitment to high-quality produce a few years ago, adding more organic and locally grown foods. The retailer said it felt it was time to update the look and feel of the department to further emphasize this.

Walmart said it had started the renovations and expected them to be finished by next summer.

In an email to Canadian Grocer, a Walmart Canada spokesperson said the retailer’s Canadian grocery departments were on a “similar journey … For example, we’ve expanded our organic and international offerings, while also introducing more theatre lighting.”

Additionally, the grocery department at its Toronto-Stockyards store has been renamed Fresh Market and has been “redesigned to include more theatre lighting and a wood panel wall treatment for a market look and feel.”
