How will online grocery grow in Canada?

Ecommerce is a hot topic for anyone who works in the grocery industry.

And with many of Canada's grocery retailers giving online grocery a go, questions are being asked as to how shoppers will shift from shopping in-store to online.

Do people actually order “fresh” produce online? Does ordering grocery online mean a price premium will be charged on the foods ordered? Can food retailers ever make money?

In a session titled "Foor for Thought: What all retailers can learn from the myths and triumphs of online grocery", at the Retail Council of Canada’s Store Conference last month, consulting firm A.T. Kearney talked about the strategy and tactics that have been used in grocery in both the U.S. and Canada.

We caught up with Vishwa Chandra, a partner with A.T. Kearney and former VP retail accounts with Instacart to get his take:
