10/20/2014

SIAL, the world's biggest food trade show is in full swing this week in Paris and yesterday handed out the prestigious Innovation Awards on Monday afternoon in Paris.

Decided upon by a jury of industry experts, these awards showcase some of the biggest trends of 2014.

Awards were given in 15 categories, divided into product segment, food ingredient, equipment and technology and buyer.

Some of the winners included Springwave (a non-alcoholic beverage that's low in sugar and high in antioxidants), Eco Gumelo - Cap Portugal (a grow-at-home mushroom kit), and Twists (a cooked meal that comes in a box with sauce contained in a separate lid to preserve taste).

New this year, awards for gold, silver and bronze were awarded along with a "web" award that was given based on consumer votes via Facebook.

"This year the jury found there to be a trend towards organic and natural products," said Xavier Terlet, CEO of Paris-based food industry consultancy XTC at the ceremony. "Consumers are also seeking more pleasure with their food, along with a trend towards do-it-yourself products."
