Looking for the next big thing in grocery? Don’t miss the Grocery & Specialty Food West, the only grocery show in the West.

With less than two weeks until the show, running April 13-14 at the Vancouver Convention Centre East, attendees can expect to discover the latest trends, innovations and growing product categories on the 65,000-sq.-ft. trade floor where there are more than 300 booths and more than 160 exhibitors showcasing their products.

Key pavilions this year include the first time exhibitors (companies launching into grocery for the first time), specialty foods, and local processors.

Here’s a sneak peak at some cool trends to watch for are:

Frozen exotic treats: Coconut water started it all, and coconut flavours continue to dominate with new products entering the frozen treats arena. Take Frozen Coconut’s non-dairy frozen dessert that features fair trade, organic, raw (flash heated) coconut milk.

Global goes home: With consumers travelling around the globe, they’re looking for a way to bring the flavours home. East African-style Indian cuisine is the specialty of Zeenaz Products. Their signature snack product Chevdo, a blend of puffed rice, nuts and savory and sweet spices, has been refined to perfection over the years.

Snacking goes gourmet: From Hanes Hummus to Otimo Brazilian-style Cheese Puffs, snacking isn’t just about chips and dip. Hanes Hummus features real ingredients, and a blend of seven spices, that is gluten free, lactose free and vegan. Otimo Cheese Puffs are a line of naturally gluten-free, frozen products based on a traditional recipe from Brazil called “pão de queijo” (cheese puff).

Artisan and gourmet twists to classics: Floating Leaf Fine Foods’ Artisan Wild Rice Egg Linguine is rolled especially thin and has exceptional flavour and texture due to slow drying at just above room temperature. It is hand crafted in small batches to maintain this integrity. The addition of wild rice adds further to the texture and a truly unique nutty flavour. Meanwhile Spolumbo’s Fine Foods offers sausages that are all natural, with no fillers, binders or preservatives. The sausages are made from 100% prime Alberta pork.
