The Overwaitea Food Group will convert 11 of its PriceSmart Foods stores to the Save-On-Foods banner by Feb. 14.

The move will allow Overwaitea to grow and strengthen its Save-On-Foods banner.

“With the overwhelming support of team members in these stores, we’re excited about this ambitious plan to deliver what customers have been asking for in these locations,” said Darrell Jones, president on the conversions. “With this change, we’re able to continue to offer customers all the same low prices they are used to, plus more selection, more specials, and more rewards."

The locations that will be converted next week are: Surrey (Cloverdale, Clayton & King George); Burnaby (Marine Way and Cameron); North Vancouver (Capilano); Chilliwack; Langley; White Rock; Abbotsford (Clearbrook); and Fort St. John.

Meanwhile, the retailer will keep five PriceSmart Foods stores intact in Richmond, Grandview, King Edward, Fleetwood and Coquitlam. These locations will strategically position the PriceSmart Foods banner for what it called "future growth and evolution".

The company said there will be a continued dual-focus that combines a low price platform with market-specific international food offerings.

“Our number one focus is making sure that we’re meeting the needs of customers in all the communities that we serve,” said Jones. He added that with their multi-banner format, Overwaitea is able to tailor the services and products that it provides to what best suits each neighbourhood.
