Pete’s, first grocer to use 100% green electricity

Nova Scotia grocer Pete’s Frootique is the first to use Bullfrog Power, Canada’s 100 per cent green energy provide in its lunch areas and juice bars at its Sunnyside Mall and Dresden Row locations.

Through Bullfrog Power, Pete’s will use approximately 267 MWh of electricity annually or enough to provide electricity to more than 23 average Nova Scotia homes.

“As providers of fresh ingredients and produce, we recognize that we have a responsibility to ensure our operations are as environmentally friendly as possible,” said Dianne Hamilton, chief operating officer, Pete’s in a Bedford Beacon report. “Choosing green electricity with Bullfrog Power helps us reduce our environmental impact, and educate and encourage our employees, customers and community to make greener choices.”

The agreement allows Bullfrog’s Maritime generators to inject renewable electricity onto the regional grid to match the amount of power Pete’s two locations use.

Pete’s has also  launched an in-store recycling program, provides reusable shopping bags and offers products with lower-impact packaging.

Its new point-of-sale technology also makes stores more energy efficient, and Pete’s has its own Green Committee, an active team of employees who help drive energy and water conservation initiatives at Pete’s.
