Retail workshops a key attraction for GIC

Grocery conference offers business learning experience to respond to industry and marketplace trends and issues

From health and wellness to how to avoid getting red flagged by inspectors, there’s a host of workshops for retailers at this year’s Grocery Innovations Canada show and exhibition.

These retailer workshop sessions will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The concurrent sessions, each 45 minutes in length, will cover a range of topics meant to help grocers succeed and grow.

The four workshops will cover the following areas: HMR, health & wellness, financial, and regulatory.

In the HMR workshop, McCain’s Judy McArthur, customer marketing manager, and Irene Stathakos, director of insights will look at the growth behind home meal replacement, who is the HMR consumer and the key drivers.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency will present an information session on how retailers can avoid getting “red flags” in their store. Sherry Bentley and Mary Rurtherford of CFIA will be offering up insight and expertise.

In the health and wellness workshop, one session presented by Choices Markets’ registered dietitian Nicole Fetterly will provide how health experts can boost basket share and profits at the tills.

Following her presentation Nielsen’s VP of consumer insights, Carman Allison will explain how health is different for boomers, ethnic consumers, millennials.

FMS Solutions will also offer two different workshops. The first one presented by Robert Graybill will look at how top retailers are increasing profits by controlled expenses and better margins.

Next, Robin Thomas will identify  the most efficient ways to integrate the supermarket back office with various store systems including DSD, POS, warehousing and bank reconciliation processes for the most effective and timely operational  and  financial reporting.

Grocery Innovations Canada is the grocery show for new products to exhibit at to get in front of Canada's top retailers, whether corporate, franchise or independent. GIC has nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibit space, with more than 350 exhibiting companies.
