The board of directors of Second Harvest has appointed Lori Nikkel as the new CEO of the food rescue organization, Canada’s largest.
Nikkel, who stepped into the role on July 2, replaces Debra Lawson who is retiring after a five-year stint as executive director at Ontario-based Second Harvest.
Most recently, Nikkel held the role of director of programs at the organization. Nikkel joined Second Harvest in 2014 and is credited with expanding many of the organization’s critical programs as well as launching Foodrescue.ca, a web-based platform for rescuing and delivering surplus food.
In a statement, Barry Telford, chair of Second Harvest’s board of directors said: “Lori’s 20 years of senior leadership experience in food security and environmental protection, coupled with her leadership style and ability to bring together a wide-range of stakeholders will ensure our continued success.”
