Senior executive at Loblaw leaves to head Sears Canada

Galen G. Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw Cos. has announced that Calvin McDonald, executive VP, conventional division of Loblaw, is no longer with the company.

McDonald has been appointed the president and CEO of Sears Canada, succeeding Dene Rogers.

McDonald had progressed through a variety of positions with increasing responsibility at Loblaw: VP  online services, VP merchandising & marketing—No Frills Division, senior VP, grocery business unit, and executive VP, marketing, CRM—brands & corporate strategy.

He was also named one of the Globe and Mail's "Top 40 Under 40" this year.

Mark Butler has been appointed executive VP, conventional division.  In addition to his new responsibilities, the store development and indirect procurement teams will continue to report to Butler.

The marketing, Loblaw brands, quality assurance and food safety teams will now report to Peter McMahon, COO.
