Carrefour gets hyper connected in its hypermarket

The French retailer's newest store is fully connected

France's Carrefour opened a supermarket in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, just outside Paris, that uses NFC technology throughout.

According to reports, rather than use barcodes, the store's 55,000 product lines are equipped with NFC tags from Swedish company Pricer.

Carrefour's C-où app for iOS and Android uses location software to find specific products in the 121,000-square-foot store.

There are also digital terminals (for recipes, tips, choosing wine) and a virtual wall for non-food purchases.

Other French retailers, including Casino and Leclerc, have used NFC technology in the past.

At this new Carrefour, there's a checkout that allows consumers to use contactless payment via their smartphones.
