A San Francisco start up has created a plant-based egg substitute that costs significantly less than the real deal, and reportedly tastes just as good.

Hampton Creek is about to ink two deals with Fortune 500 companies interested in using its product, called Beyond Eggs.

The product appeals to consumers concerned with animal welfare, environmental issues, and anyone maintaining a vegan diet.

Most importantly, since about 33% of all eggs end up as ingredients in CPG products, the product is much cheaper than the real deal.

Beyond Eggs cost 18% less than hen-laid eggs, a major bonus for food companies looking to reduce production costs.
