Target among most generous companies

Retailer named one of the most generous companies in the U.S.

Massive conglomerates aren't often seen as most philanthropic groups, but Target might be the exception. A recent survey ranked the retailer as the eighth-most generous company in the United States. The Chronicle of Philanthropy, a newspaper that covers nonprofit organizations, found Target gave away about $149 million of its profits - although that only accounts for about 3.2% of its total revenue. New-York-based Alcola gave away the highest percentage of its profits at 12.1%, followed by Safeway at 7.2%. Sixth on the list was Kroger, offering up 3.3% of its profits. According to an article in Twin Cities Business, Target says through various community grants and programs, its total giving equals more than $4 million a week. Read the full article here.
