How did you get your start in the grocery business?

My career in grocery started after I went back to school and completed my MBA at Schulich (School of Business). I'd always wanted a career where I could create an impact on the everyday lives of Canadians. For me, creating great products was the best way to do that. I started my career on the CPG side and transitioned to Loblaw as an opportunity to get closer to the customer and be part of a Canadian-led organization.

What keeps you passionate about your work?

Having a purpose and seeing that reflected in my work keeps me motivated and passionate about my work. I'm honoured to be leading the biggest brands in Canada. With President's Choice I have the privilege to create new and unique products that create excitement for Canadians. Equally important to me is the obligation to serve Canadians high quality products at affordable prices in a sustainable way. This is what we do with our No Name brand.

What is a career challenge you've faced and how did you overcome it?

Acquiring and retaining top talent is a skill that requires continuous learning. Developing people and teams is the most rewarding part of my job, but it can also be the most challenging. I rely on having a very clear recruitment strategy and engaging team leaders as the keys to success. I also focus heavily on retraining top talent. Great teams don't just happen, they are built through clear, intentional people plans and investment in the team.

What is the best advice you've received in your career?

I know you've heard this one before, but it's true: lean in. I've experienced the greatest career growth when I've accepted an opportunity that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. It's always scary, and there is a tendency to overthink challenges and risks, but I've learned to trust myself, my capabilities and my team.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

My second job is as a private chauffeur for my two girls who are heavily involved in competitive sports. I make the time and investment because I believe in the power of sport. It's a priority for me to encourage my girls to be strong, healthy, team players.

What is a fun fact about you?

Every time we launch a new Insiders Report I hold a big party for family and friends at my home and only serve the new PC productsit’s always a hit!
