A new Food Basics is headed for Toronto.

The Metro-owned discount chain will join the ROQ City development in the Downtown East, Canadian Grocer confirmed.

Located on Queen Street East, ROQ City is described by developer Tricon Residential as a “music-inspired retail destination.”

The development spans 1.8 acres with 79,000 square-fee of retail. Two towers—standing 33 and 24 storeys tall—will be connected by a 320-stall parking garage.

It will also include a half-acre public park.

On the ROQ City website, a 26,211 square-foot space is allotted for a “potential grocer” on the second level of “Tower B.”

A Shoppers Drug Mart is already confirmed for the site. The pharmacy retailer will be located in a 12,000 square-foot space on the first level of Tower B.

ROQ City is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2027.

The news was first reported by Retail Insider.
