Metro Inc.’s Carmen Fortino is the latest recipient of the Retail Council of Canada’s 2025 Canadian Grand Prix Lifetime Achievement Award.

He will be recognized during a gala this June alongside Unilever’s Gary Wade, who will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Fortino is executive vice president, national supply chain and procurement, for Metro.

RCC’s Canadian Grand Prix Lifetime Achievement Award honours individuals or families who have demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to the Canadian retail and grocery industries.

Fortino joined Metro in 2014 as SVP and Metro Ontario division head.

Two years later, he was named EVP, Metro Ontario Division head, before adding national supply chain operations to his responsibilities in 2019.

He was honoured in 2022 with the Golden Pencil Award.

"Carmen Fortino has been a constant in a rapidly changing industry. What sets him apart is his ability to evolve—bringing decades of experience, starting in a family business in 1985, into bold, forward-thinking leadership," said Diane J. Brisebois, president and CEO of RCC, in a press release. "This Lifetime Achievement award is a tribute to the vision and the impact he's had across every level of grocery retail in Canada."

Past Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer recipients include Longo's CEO Anthony Longo and the Longo Family; Cindy and Tina Lee of T&T Supermarket; Burnbrae Farms president & CEO Margaret Hudson; former Pattison Food Group president Darrell Jones; Morrison Lamothe Inc. & Club Coffee L.P. CEO John Pigott; Metro Inc.'s former SVP, procurement and corporate brands, Serge Boulanger; Kruger Products CEO Dino Bianco; and Sobeys Inc. president and CEO Michael Medline.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Fortino and Wade at RCC’s Canadian Grand Prix Awards Gala, to be held on June 4 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
