Retailers should prepare for a high-volume, short-window shopping period this Mother’s Day, DoorDash said.

According to the delivery company, the majority of Canadians had flowers, meals and gifts sent to mom last-minute on Mother’s Day 2024.

Notably, just 15% of flower orders were scheduled via DoorDash in advance last year. Eleven per cent were scheduled the day before and 85% were placed on-demand.

Chicken breasts, eggs, cilantro and strawberries each saw a 20,000% in sales on Mother’s Day last year, compared to other Sundays that May.

In Ontario, mimosas were also on the menu as sales for sparkling wine and orange juice increased by over 35% each.

Most bouquets were ordered to arrive at 10:45 a.m.

The three most popular types of gifts from retailers ordered on DoorDash were fragrances, bath salts, face cream and chips.

As for flowers, assorted bouquets and rose bouquets were two of Canada’s most popular flower orders last year.
